• Stage and costume designer Polina Liefers was born in Moscow into a German-Russian theatre family. She graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School. The year 2015 marks her move to Berlin, where she has since then been based, working both in the operatic and dramatic field.

    As an assistant she has worked at theatres like Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Teatro alla Scala, St. Petersburg Mikhailowsky Theatre, Berliner Ensemble and Teatro Comunale di Bologna, collaborating with directors such as Jürgen Flimm, Wim Wenders and Sven-Eric Bechtolf and artists such as Magdalena Gut, Annette Murschetz, Julian Crouch, Frank Gehry, Anselm Kiefer and Markus Lüpertz.

    Starting out with her own work in 2017, she created the set design for „Eine kleine Sehnsucht“ (director: Beate Baron), as well as the set and costumes for „Der unglaubliche Spotz“ (director: Marcin Lakomicki), both at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. She has since then moved on to work at various theatres, among her projects being the set design for „La Clemenza di Tito“ at the Staatstheater Braunschweig (director: Jürgen Flimm) and for „Die Geschichte vom Soldaten“ at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (director: Jürgen Flimm), set and costume design for „Rückenwind“ at the Nibelungenfestspiele Worms (director: Thomas Blubacher), as well as the costume design for „Don Karlos“ at Schauspiel Köln (director: Jürgen Flimm). Her most recent works include set design for „Adriana Lecouvreur“ and „Roméo et Juliette” at Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (both directed by Frederic Wake-Walker). Season 23/24 welcomes her first collaboration with director Claudia Isabel Martin.
